There are so many reasons behind it. Let’s try to answer little bit differently and plainly.

Say, if the territory of Bangladesh was not in the Indian subcontinent but a little elsewhere, for example, if Bangladesh was present in the territory of Myanmar, the scene could be different.

Historically, contradiction took place in peoples’ thoughts and opinions since the “Partition of Bengal” in the British era. Leaders close to then Calcutta looked for ‘No Partition of Bengal’. On the other hand, Islamic-minded leaders wanted the Partition of Bengal to be sustained. Naturally, the people following these two poles of the leaders were also divided. Even long before that, when the patriot Nawab Siraj Uddaula was defeated and martyred in 1757, the conspiratorial evil forces that joined hands with the British were not brought to justice.

As it is a very difficult question I have faced so far, therefore, it could be a critical answer to provide to you. There are so many reasons behind it. Let’s try to answer little bit differently and plainly.

They got impunity (because there was no power to try them). Not only that, they became a victorious force and spread the history of tarnishing the heroic Nawab in various ways among the people. As a result, there are two classes of patriots and flatterers and this continues. These flatterers sometimes “go” to Pakistan and sometimes “to” India. Due to these flatterers in the liberation war of 1971, we have lost many heroic freedom fighters and eminent intellectuals of the country.

The saddest thing is that the flatterers successfully always place them around the center of the throne. As a result, the people have been easily influenced by the domination of power, and have always been divided. As a result, the people have been suffering for hundreds of years, and the flatterers are in a state of happiness and prestige.

Now let’s come to the geographical context. As India is around this country, its impact on the people is immense. Bollywood culture has thought control over the masses. Again the indigenous culture is basically Indian culture. Many intellectuals attach unlimited importance to this, and promote Indian thought-culture by uniting with power. On the other hand, the number of people with Islamic consciousness in this country is also huge. A large part of the country prioritize Muslim values. As a result, there are two classes of people in the world of “thought and mind” in this country. Inevitably, when they are confronted with a political opinion or decision, they are divided. That is why there is always a division in the political culture in this.

As you see a lot of violent pictures and videos on the streets of Bangladesh, it is because, whenever, any conflict arises, people from different and contradictory platforms appear on the streets to show down their own demands. Probably, due to humid-warm climate in the subcontinent, mess people are intolerant and impatient. They can be agitated and come to fight with opponents momentarily.

Thus, the political culture of Bangladesh always been contradictory.
